The Sky’s the Limit for a Pokemon Pokopia Sequel

The Sky’s the Limit for a Pokemon Pokopia Sequel

The success of Pokemon Pokopia has been one of 2026’s most pleasant gaming surprises. Not only is it the highest-rated game in the Pokemon franchise, but Pokopia sold an impressive 2.2 million copies in just the first four days alone. With these impressive figures as feathers in its cap, it seems like a sequel to Pokemon Pokopia is inevitable, and this potential sequel has a ton on the table to work with.

While Pokemon Pokopia largely builds upon Omega Force’s previous work on the Dragon Quest Builder franchise, its unique mechanics set the game apart and leave the door wide open to be expanded upon in the future. Like with the Dragon Quest Builders games, Omega Force successfully iterated upon the original with the sequel, and there’s a clear direction for the developer to do so again with Pokopia. Despite the vast amount of content already in the game, there is still so much more in the Pokemon world that a Pokopia sequel could bring into the spin-off as a new series unfolds.

The 86 Metacritic Game That’s the Perfect Alternative to Pokemon Pokopia If You Don’t Have a Switch 2

Pokemon Pokopia requires a Nintendo Switch 2 to play, but original Switch owners have this highly-rated alternative game to play instead.

Pokemon Pokopia Players Rebuilt Kanto, But There Are Still 8 Other Regions to Tackle

As players progress through the main story quests of Pokemon Pokopia, it becomes increasingly clear that they are exploring the ruins of the Kanto Region. Each of Pokopia‘s major areas has iconic landmarks from the Kanto Region, such as the S.S. Anne in Bleak Beach, Pewter City Museum in Rocky Ridge, and the Silph Co. Building in Sparkling Skylands. These buildings make it obvious that players are exploring and rebuilding Kanto cities like Vermillion City, Pewter City, and Saffron City, and the fact that Palette Town is named as such only confirms that this is the Kanto Region.

The Best Regions for a Pokemon Pokopia 2 to Explore

Out of all eight remaining regions that could appear in a Pokemon Pokopia sequel, the regions from Gen 2, 3, and 4 would make the most sense. The earlier generations of Pokemon hold a similar level of nostalgia among fans as Kanto, and a Pokopia sequel would be the perfect way to revisit these regions without remaking their original games again. With Kalos recently getting a spotlight in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Galar leaked to be the setting of the next Pokemon Legends game, it would make a lot of sense for future Pokopia sequels to take players back to the earlier gen regions.

A Johto-based Pokopia sequel makes the most sense after Kanto, since it would follow the original generational order of regions. Plus, the Johto Region has some iconic locations, such as the Burned Tower and Bell Tower of Ecruteak City, or the Olivine City Lighthouse. Additionally, Johto has the perfect area to include as an icy biome in the Ice Path that connects Route 44 and Blackthorn City.

The Hoenn Region may not be the next Pokemon region chronologically after Kanto, but it has a diversity of biomes that could be perfect for Pokopia‘s gameplay. Between the desert of Route 111, the ash-covered routes around Fallarbor Town, and the isolated island of Sootopolis City, a Hoenn-based Pokopia sequel could offer players a completely different experience from the original game.

A Pokopia sequel set in the Sinnoh Region would make for an interesting companion to a game like Pokemon Legends: Arceus. Going from a version of the region in the distant past to one in a post-apocalyptic future could show the progression of how the region evolved over time, including the rise and fall of landmarks like the Canalave City Library or the Solaceon Town Ruins.

Pokemon Pokopia is Still Missing Around 700 Creatures from its Pokedex

The other area a Pokemon Pokopia sequel has tons of room to expand is in its Pokedex of creatures that players can find. Currently, Pokopia has around 300 Pokemon in its Pokedex, which represents only a fraction of the over 1,000 total creatures in the franchise. While it makes sense to keep that number smaller for a spin-off game, the success of Pokopia shows that a sequel can go even bigger with the number of critters players can recruit to their towns.

Pokemon That Need to Appear in a Pokopia Sequel

  • Bagon
  • Shelgon
  • Salamence
  • Turtwig
  • Grotle
  • Torterra
  • Deino
  • Zweilous
  • Hydreigon
  • Tornadus
  • Thundurus
  • Landorus
  • Litten
  • Torracat
  • Incineroar
  • Enamorus

Although there are still roughly 700 Pokemon missing from Pokopia‘s Pokedex, a few notable exclusions deserve to appear in a sequel. For starters, Pokopia doesn’t include every starter in the franchise, and while the original Gen 1 starters are present, some more popular later-gen starters like Turtwig and Litten are missing. These could be easy additions to a Pokemon Pokopia 2, and Turtwig’s addition would especially complement a Sinnoh Region setting.

There are also a couple of Pseudo-Legendary Pokemon missing from Pokopia‘s current Pokedex. Gen 3 has two Pseudo-Legendaries, but only Metagross is obtainable in Pokopia, while Salamence is left behind. Gen 5’s Pseudo-Legendary Hydreigon is also missing, which should be rectified in a future sequel. On top of these missing Pseudos, Pokopia‘s Legendary Pokemon roster is fairly limited despite the series’ hefty Legendary lineup. The Gen 5 trio of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus would make perfect additions to Pokopia, since they represent the forces of nature, which is a major aspect of Pokopia‘s post-apocalyptic version of the Pokemon world. Enamorus, the trio’s fourth member introduced in Legends: Arceus, could also appear in a sequel to Pokopia, as it represents the coming of Spring, a time when the land is renewed and new life grows, which thematically fits within Pokemon Pokopia.
