Fans of Tomodachi Life should be aware that there are knock-off apps pretending to be the game on Google Play. The apps have apparently tricked a number of gamers hopeful that they could play Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream on a device other than the Nintendo Switch, which it is exclusively available on.

While many gamers these days want to see more console exclusives on systems like Xbox and PlayStation, there is a downside to them. With the three typical heavy hitters of console gaming, namely Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony, always having at least one current-gen console available for sale, gamers are often limited to purchasing just one or two, leaving them looking at exclusives they can’t play with envy and frustration. These knock-off apps are likely taking advantage of that demographic, among others.

Rip-Offs of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Appear On Google Play

Now, apps claiming to be the official Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game have now appeared on the Google Play Store. The two apps, titled “My Tomodachi Dream Life” and “Tomodachi Life Living the Dream” are both currently available on the service, and notably copy images and promotional materials direct from the official Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game for Nintendo Switch. However, neither has any official connection to Nintendo, and players should avoid downloading them.

While many gamers would likely see a scam like this and recognize it as one right away, not everyone has been so discerning. At the time of publication, the two apps boast over 50,000 downloads each. It’s likely that most of these downloads have been by kids and non-gamers who don’t know that the title is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch. To make matters worse, both copycat apps indicate that microtransactions are available in-game, ranging from $9.99 in price to as much as $54.99. With any luck, those who downloaded the apps quickly realized they were fakes and didn’t spend any cash.

Surprisingly, both of these apps have survived on the Google Play Store since mid-May 2026. Fans know that the Nintendo is very protective of its intellectual property and has a history of being litigious, so it’s likely only a matter of time before these games are caught and taken down. It’s unfortunate, however, that Google Play didn’t detect the copyrighted artwork and titles of the games and put a stop to them before they were ever made available to the public. They notably aren’t the only scam games being offered by the apps’ publishers, with a notable rip-off of The Sims 4 also being uploaded by one of them.

Thankfully, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream isn’t Nintendo Switch 2-exclusive, so those who own one of the over 155 million original Nintendo Switch systems can play it without any problems. Those who are looking for a similar life sim experience on Google Play, however, may want to check out Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete, which is officially available on Android devices. Though not identical, the two game franchises have been frequently compared, with cozy vibes and a cartoony art style present in both.
