The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 multiplayer servers on PS5 and PS4 have been compromised by a hacker that has gone around several lobbies and manipulated player accounts. The reports came weeks after Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and its predecessor were shadow-dropped on the PlayStation Store across the globe.
Although it was released on the PS3 in 2013, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was unavailable for most PlayStation players for several years due to the PS4 and PS5 not including backward compatibility with the PS3. Ergo, players who wanted to experience the first two entries in the Call of Duty: Black Ops series had to use other platforms, such as Steam and Xbox. On July 9, Black Ops 1 and 2 were released as direct ports by Iron Galaxy Studios, who worked alongside Activision and Treyarch. Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 support cross-generation matchmaking across the PS5 and PS4 ecosystems, though this does not extend to full cross play with other systems.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Servers Become a Hacker’s Playground
However, cheaters still run rampant within the PlayStation ports of Black Ops 1 and 2. As reported by GamesRadar+, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2′s multiplayer lobbies still rely on vulnerable infrastructure that has not been upgraded since the game’s initial 2013 launch. A hacker who goes by the aliases “C Isn’t Sharp” and “Who Isn’t Sharp?” has reportedly appeared in player lobbies to mess with player accounts in different ways. While some users have had their levels and Prestige ranks altered by C Isn’t Sharp, others stated that they have been unable to go back into matches due to game crashes that occurred afterward.

Even high-profile content creators have not been spared by C Isn’t Sharp. Twitch and YouTube streamer TimTheTatman shared a clip from a recent broadcast that saw his account boosted to level 55 and Prestige 16, with the latter rank being one that does not exist at all in Black Ops 2. TimTheTatman took to social media afterward and tagged the Call of Duty development team to raise awareness on the issue. In response to TimTheTatman’s post, several Call of Duty players condemned the hacker’s actions.
Despite the ongoing issues with Call of Duty: Black Ops 2‘s multiplayer lobbies, that has not stopped the PlayStation ports from selling well. Although Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 are priced at $40 each on the PlayStation Store, Black Ops 2 had over five million PSN players logging in from across the US. During the initial launch, the PS5 port of Black Ops 2 even outpaced other Call of Duty titles, such as Black Ops 7 and Warzone, on Sony’s current-gen platform.
As of this writing, neither Activision, Treyarch, nor Iron Galaxy have publicly commented on the ongoing situation with the PlayStation ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2. Though the developers have largely pivoted toward the upcoming open beta of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, it remains to be seen what steps the developers will take to address the problem.
