This Summer’s Coziest Vampire Game Gives Stardew Valley Fans Their Own Twilight Era

Stardew Valley‘s legacy has spawned a renaissance of farming sim games, and Moonlight Peaks is one of the newest to bring its own special spin to the genre. Moonlight Peaks features the staple mechanics that make a farming sim so addictive, but the game’s big twist is what makes it extra enticing. It takes place in a universe where vampires, werewolves, and a variety of other fantastical creatures are actually real.

When it comes to games like Stardew Valley, a lot of them aim to bring their own unique worlds to life. Moonlight Peaks might be one of the most standout takes on the formula, though. Moonlight Peaks takes plenty of inspiration from Stardew Valley, but its distinct 3D art style and laid-back, spooky world have what it takes to be the best cozy games of the summer.

Moonlight Peaks comes out on PC/Steam and both Nintendo Switch consoles on July 7.

11 Best World Seeds in Stardew Valley

World Seeds can prove to be useful in Stardew Valley. Here are the best World Seeds players can use to enhance their gameplay.

Moonlight Peaks is the Perfect Stardew Valley-Like for Gamers Who Love Vampires and Supernatural Creatures

The beginning of Moonlight Peaks is a very familiar premise for fans of farming life sim games. A player’s character has inherited their family’s old homestead, and it’s up to them to revamp it (pun intended) and build it into the ultimate vampire dwelling. This homestead is a blank slate that blends gothic and rustic design together for a unique dream home. Home customization can be a big enough draw on its own, but Moonlight Peaks has even more to offer beyond that.

A Custom Character, Plenty of Romance Options, and Uncovering the Town’s Mysterious History

Moonlight Peaks‘ supernatural town features seven core families that make up the bulk of the population. Players will interact with these families and various NPCs to learn more about the town’s history while also potentially getting even closer to certain residents. Romance mechanics are one of the many things that make farm sims like Stardew Valley so fun. Stardew Valley‘s romance options have ignited plenty of discussion over the years about which NPC is the best choice, and Moonlight Peaks has plenty of its own options for players to consider.

Moonlight Peaks also features a robust character creator that allows players to create their ideal vampire. The game boasts diverse appearance options to choose from, which creates a variety of unique combinations.

There’s one key difference that already makes Moonlight Peaks better than Stardew Valley when it comes to romanceable NPCs, though. Stardew Valley originally had 12 options and eventually added two more through updates. Moonlight Peaks will have double that with 24 characters to choose from. There are many cozy games with romance out there, but starting out with 24 character choices gets Moonlight Peaks off to a stronger start than some other titles in the genre. These romance options are a combination of vampire and non-vampire NPCs, which adds a fun variety to the in-game dating pool.

A Few Supernatural Creatures Confirmed for Moonlight Peaks So Far

  • Vampires
  • Werewolves
  • Witches
  • Mermaids

Gamers who have been itching for a world where mermaids and witches can be romanced will definitely want to keep Moonlight Peaks on their radar. Moonlight Peaks isn’t a full-blown dating sim game, but it’s bound to be a selling point for a lot of cozy lovers who specifically gravitate toward these kinds of relationship-building mechanics.

Beyond Romance, Moonlight Peaks is Filled With Plenty of Classic Stardew Valley-Inspired Farming Charm

Farming definitely doesn’t take a back seat in Moonlight Peaks. There are a few big differences when comparing it to Stardew Valley, though. Players work to grow magical plants and raise supernatural livestock. It’s one of the many ways that Moonlight Peaks‘ gameplay stands out. A few of the confirmed farm animals include inventive livestock like the Draculamb and the Hellkitten, a three-eyed feline.

Moonlight Peaks takes plenty of inspiration from Stardew Valley, but its distinct 3D art style and laid-back, spooky world have what it takes to be the best cozy games of the summer.

To lean even harder into the vampire themes, Moonlight Peaks requires all the farming to be done under the cover of moonlight. Vampires in this universe aren’t the sparkly Twilight types that can survive in the daytime. The sun is still a threat, so players will have to make sure to finish their tasks and get inside before the day breaks. Moonlight Peaks has even more fun with classic vampire lore, too. There are a lot of games about vampires out there that put their own spins on the creature’s lore, and Moonlight Peaks is honoring many of the staple qualities given to vampires over the years. In addition to being affected by sunlight, Moonlight Peaks‘ vampires are able to shapeshift. Turning into a bat can make traveling much easier, but the game’s official website teases that players might be able to take other forms, too.

Activities Players Can Expect in Moonlight Peaks

  • Learning spells
  • Potion brewing
  • Embroidering
  • Flower arranging
  • Card collecting
  • Fishing
  • Foraging

Life as a vampire doesn’t always have to be filled with bloodlust. Vampires deserve to have their own ways of winding down, too. Side activities like learning spells and crafting potions are aligned with Moonlight Peaks‘ supernatural cozy game vibes, but there are also a few key pastimes that are more traditional cozy game features. Activities like embroidering and flower arranging are ideal cozy hobbies to spend time with in Moonlight Peaks, and fishing and foraging are great for players who are more interested in outdoor exploration.

For those who are interested in checking out Moonlight Peaks, the wait won’t be much longer. Moonlight Peaks‘ release date being in the summer makes it an ideal window. It’s the perfect game for escaping the heat, and it will be interesting to see what the initial feedback is when the game officially launches. Cozy game lovers who don’t want to wait to check it out, though, can try out a free Moonlight Peaks demo on Steam.
