Official Nintendo Announcement Confirms Switch 2 is a Safe Investment

Nintendo fans anxious that the Switch 2 might not be a sound investment can rest easy because there are big plans in store for the latest home console/handheld hybrid. The Nintendo Switch 2 had a fast start, with its sales still outpacing that of the original Switch. However, Switch 2 sales have slumped in recent months, with the PS5 routinely beating Nintendo’s console in the monthly sales charts. Clearly, there are some Nintendo fans that are waiting to pull the trigger on the Switch 2, but with a price hike on the horizon, they may be feeling especially anxious about getting the new console.

Starting September 1, the Nintendo Switch 2 is getting a price hike that will see the cost of the console go from $449.99 to $499.99. Nintendo is trying to offset the cost by including a free game with the console, with customers getting to choose between heavy hitters like Pokemon Pokopia, Mario Kart World, and Donkey Kong Bananza. Still, there may be some fans that are nervous about investing in a Switch 2, but a recent announcement should put those concerns at ease.

I’ve Played All 12 Switch 2 Exclusives Released So Far and Here’s My Official Ranking

I’ve played all eleven Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive games that have released so far, and here is how I would rank them.

Nintendo Has Big Plans for the Switch 2

nintendo switch 2 vrr situation gets even more confusing

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has stated that he wants the Nintendo Switch 2’s lifespan to be similar to the Switch 1. The Switch 1 is still getting exclusive releases a staggering nine years into its life. If we take Furukawa’s statement literally, it means fans can expect the Switch 2 to be Nintendo’s primary console for at least an eight-year period like the Switch 1 was (2017 – 2025), with the successor not coming until 2033 or thereabouts, and even then, exclusive games will likely still be made for the device past that point.

A video game console is only as good as its games. After announcing the Switch 2 price hike, Furukawa assured investors that the company is preparing “a robust software lineup” to make the console an even more appealing prospect. Nintendo has consistently delivered some of the highest-rated and most beloved video games of all time, and so it’s easy to believe that the Switch 2 will be getting plenty of must-have games. In fact, some potential major Switch 2 games have already been announced and are releasing in the relatively near future.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is coming on May 21, while a new Star Fox remake is coming at the end of June. Splatoon Raiders, a campaign-focused Splatoon spin-off, will be released in July. It’s also believed that Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will release for the Switch 2 at some point this summer, though a specific release date still hasn’t been announced at the time of this writing.

Zelda Ocarina of Time Link and the Deku Tree

If the rumored June 2026 Nintendo Direct takes place, a release date for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave will almost certainly be a part of the presentation. Fans can also expect Nintendo to pull the curtain back on its Switch 2 plans for the rest of 2026 at the show. Reputable leakers have said that a Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is the big holiday game for the Switch 2 this year, and considering the original game’s reputation as the highest-rated game of all time, one has to imagine it will be a system-seller for many gamers.
