The return of the Buy 2, Get 1 Free deal came amid a busy time for the popular gaming retail chain. After being turned away from purchasing eBay for $55.5 billion in an offer that was called “neither credible nor attractive,” GameStop CEO Ryan Cohen reportedly gave up a $35 billion performance-based bonus to focus the company’s efforts on acquiring the auction site. Given Cohen’s choice, it is entirely plausible that GameStop could still pursue a hostile takeover of eBay if a deal cannot be reached at the negotiating table.

Ahead of the annual Fourth of July festivities, GameStop customers across the US can now take advantage of a popular deal. The Buy 2, Get 1 Free event is back at participating GameStop retail locations across the country. However, the deals are only valid for GameStop Pro customers, meaning that interested users must spend $25 on an annual GameStop Pro membership. Although GameStop Pro Points have been retired, GameStop Pro members can still claim other perks, such as 10% bonus trade-in credit or free shipping on orders worth $54 or more.

Some of the pre-owned games that GameStop Pro members can purchase during the Buy 2, Get 1 Free event include Star Fox at $54.99, Monster Hunter Wilds at $29.99, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 at $44.99 while supplies last. GameStop Pro members can utilize different delivery options, such as ship to home or in-store pickup, at checkout. As of June 2026, physical copies sold at GameStop should come with upgraded price stickers that will be easier for users to peel off. Given that GameStop’s price stickers have been notoriously difficult to remove for over two decades, time will tell how effective the retail chain’s new stickers will be.
However, the return of GameStop’s Buy 2, Get 1 Free campaign has already been marred by a controversial decision from one of gaming’s largest companies. Sony announced it would stop manufacturing PlayStation game discs effective January 2028. Sony stated that it would go towards a digital-only format afterward and cited the rise in digital game sales as the main factor behind its decision. However, Sony reassured fans that any games released on PlayStation platforms before January 2028 would continue to receive physical editions. Ergo, upcoming titles like Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will still have Blu-ray Disc copies for customers to purchase.
