I think Pokemon is going to dominate this summer for 3 massive reasons

The Pokemon franchise has a stacked summer 2026 schedule that should keep monster-catching fans plenty busy. Whether they’re searching for news on the latest games, bringing Pokemon to life in the real world, or aching to find out who really is the very best, like no one ever was, there are three big reasons Pokemon could easily dominate the upcoming months.

Pokemon‘s 30th anniversary year plans have already given players a lot to be excited about, including the launches of its first life sim in Pokemon Pokopia and a new Pokemon Stadium-style arena game in Pokemon Champions, along with first-look reveals at the upcoming Pokemon Winds & Waves. While it has been about a month since anything major happened in the franchise, fans shouldn’t expect The Pokemon Company to rest on its laurels, as there’s plenty more to look forward to during the summer months of 2026.

Pokemon Winds and Waves Theory Speculates on the Battle Gimmick

A Pokemon fan shares their theory about the battle gimmick for Pokemon Winds and Waves, and based on leaks, it makes a lot of sense.

Why Pokemon Will Be an Unstoppable Force in Summer 2026

First up is a trip into the realms of mobile gaming, as Pokemon GO is adding Mega Mewtwo to the game through its GO Fest 2026 celebrations. The arrival of both the X and Y variants of Pokemon‘s first Psychic-type legendary’s Mega Evolved form is sure to invigorate the mobile AR game’s fan base and have players excitedly joining in on the hunt. A regional GO Fest event will be held in Tokyo in late May before moving on to Chicago and Copenhagen, with the free event planned to run globally on July 11-12 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Localized events will feature encounters with Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y through timed research tasks, but fans participating in the global event should get their strongest anti-psychic teams ready, as they’ll need to participate in Super Mega Raids to haul in these beefed-up legendaries.

Pokemon fans may be able to get an even more hands-on experience with their favorite little monsters through a collaboration with LEGO, as the rumor mill is indicating that even more official Pokemon building kits may be announced in the near future. LEGO already released its first Pokemon builds in February, coinciding with the franchise’s 30th anniversary and giving brick-building enthusiasts the chance to make their own versions of Pikachu, Eevee, and all three fully-evolved members of the Gen-1 starter trio. If rumors of additional LEGO kits through this collaboration are to be believed, fans may soon get their chance to assemble the first Pokemon enhanced with LEGO’s Smart Brick technology, offering an even more interactive experience with lights, sounds, and reactions to stimuli. LEGO kicked off its Smart Play system with three Star Wars kits, and incorporating the technology into another major IP would go a long way to increase its popularity early on.

Lastly, the annual Pokemon World Championships will be hitting the scene from August 28-30 in San Francisco, giving top-tier players of all types the chance to show off their skills in the classic video game, trading card game, Pokemon GO, and Pokemon Unite championship competitions. Also joining the fray this year is the first-ever world championships of Pokemon Champions, the strategic, turn-based arena battler that hit Switch and mobile devices in early April. With less than five months between the game’s launch and the first-ever world competition, it should be particularly exciting to find out who has risen through the ranks of Pokemon Champions the fastest, with the winning strategies likely to set a major precedent for the metagame moving forward.

Even those who couldn’t care less about esports will want to keep their eyes on the Pokemon World Champions, as they’re frequently used as a platform for dropping big news about current and upcoming games in the Pokemon franchise. That’s especially relevant this year, as fans around the globe have been on the edge of their seats waiting for more information on the long-awaited Pokemon Gen 10 games, Pokemon Winds and Waves. The Pokemon Presents showcase from February already gave fans their first look at Pokemon‘s Gen-10 starters, southeast Asian archipelago region, gym types, and story beats. Still, with factors like the full list of Pokemon, new battle mechanics, and questions about how winds and waves will fit into the game’s overall theme, there are still a lot of mysteries surrounding Pokemon Winds and Waves, and fans may get some big answers before the close of summer.
