Nintendo Fan Creates Custom Switch Dock Cover Inspired By Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

A Nintendo fan has created a custom Switch dock cover inspired by Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Since its global release in April of this year, the game has garnered significant attention not only among Nintendo fans but also among enthusiasts of cozy titles. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream was also eagerly anticipated by players who love the Tomodachi Life series, as this third installment was released thirteen years after its predecessor.

The gaming community’s significant interest in this relaxing social simulation video game stemmed primarily from the wide range of opportunities it offered for incorporating user-generated content, which contributed to its high replay value. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream has also received widespread praise for its enhanced inclusivity, which is significantly greater than in the two previous installments. Positive reviews also highlighted the game’s art style, customization options, and the humor arising from the interactions between user-customizable avatars known as Miis. As a result, fans of the game began to engage with it in various ways, creating their own projects both within and outside the game.

One fan of this Nintendo title decided to create a project inspired by it that goes beyond the confines of the game’s world. On their Instagram account, a creator named rocketlab_design posted a video showing a Switch dock cover they made, which is a replica of one of the unlockable buildings in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, namely the Fresh Kingdom supermarket. The user demonstrated the entire process of creating this project, from printing it on a 3D printer to mounting it on the device, noting that this design is compatible with both the Switch 1 and Switch 2 docks. In addition, the creator included a link in the comments to the blueprints, which can be found on their MakerWorld account.

The post sparked a lively response among the game’s fans, garnering around 12,000 likes. In the comments under the video, some users admitted that they would love to have something like that for their Switch. Other fans have stated that the emergence of such projects shows that Nintendo’s latest social simulator continues to generate a lot of interest and should be counted among the best releases so far this year. Some commenters even asked the creator to make more similar projects featuring other locations on the island in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream.

This project isn’t the first time fans of various games have created Switch dock covers inspired by them. Last year, another Nintendo fan showed off their 3D-printed Switch 2 dock cover inspired by Donkey Kong Bananza. Toward the end of 2025, another user shared their Christmas gift online, which turned out to be a Switch 2 dock cover filled with references to Stardew Valley. The release of popular titles for the Switch 1 and 2 not only drives player engagement with these games but also sparks projects that combine their passion for them with technical expertise in using Nintendo hardware.
