Legend of Zelda Fan Creates Hylian Shield in Real Life
A fan of the Zelda franchise called MegaSeneca has shared their recreation of the iconic Hylian Shield, which they built out of EVA craft foam. The shield is a spot-on remake of the original, with the iconic Hylian Crest and Triforce on the front. Although it’s made out of a fairly lightweight and moldable foam, the shield strongly resembles real metal, and even the inside of the shield has been carefully created, with an artificial wood grain that looks like it’s straight out of the games. Fans have particularly applauded the level of detail given to the shield, and how MegaSeneca made something built out of foam look like a real battle-ready piece.

Gamers have asked for some further information on the build, which MegaSeneca has shed some light on. MegaSeneca explained that it took about two weeks for them to build, even though they were splitting their time on other projects and work. Additionally, while they don’t have footage of the base build, they later shared a video demonstrating how they finished it, with a combination of painting, air brushing, and sanding. The shield in motion is arguably even more impressive, as it fully reveals the stunningly realistic shininess of the “metal.”
Fans of games have found all kinds of ways to recreate their favorite weapons, shields, and tools from games over the years, with many building game props with 3D printers. Others choose to use foam like MegaSeneca, while some have gone so far as to actually utilize blacksmithing skills to create real, working pieces of armor, weapons, and shields. Official replicas of the Hylian Shield have also been produced, but creating the item from scratch likely provides a sense of satisfaction to the crafter that a purchased version just can’t match.
