Nintendo Reveals the 5 Best-Selling Switch 2 Games So Far

Nintendo has updated its list of the best-selling Switch 2 games, confirming strong sales for the console’s exclusive games as well as one of its enhanced Switch 1 ports. The Nintendo Switch 2 got off to a hot start last year, with critically-acclaimed games like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza only playable on the new home console/handheld hybrid.

Nintendo has continued supporting the Switch 2 in the months since its initial launch with exciting new games, including even more exclusives. There are also challenges on the horizon for the console, though, with Nintendo recently announcing that the Switch 2 price is going up to $499.99 starting September 1. If Nintendo wants to convince people to pay even more for the Switch 2 than before, it will need to make sure that it is delivering a steady stream of high-quality games.

Switch 2 Super Smash Bros. Game Leak is Good News for Fans

It’s been six years since Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released for the OG Switch, and now it seems the wait for a sequel is nearly over.

Best-Selling Switch 2 Games

Mario Kart World

14.70 million

Donkey Kong Bananza

4.52 million

Pokemon Legends: Z-A

3.94 million

Pokemon Pokopia

2.41 million (technically 4 million+)

Kirby Air Riders

1.87 million

With that in mind, Nintendo recently released its latest sales numbers for various Switch 2 exclusives, though there is a caveat. The numbers provided by Nintendo are as of March 31, and so they’re not 100% accurate, but Mario Kart World has sold 14.7 million units so far, followed by Donkey Kong Bananza at 4.52 million, Pokemon Legends: Z-A at 3.94 million, Pokemon Pokopia at 2.41 million, and finally, Kirby Air Riders at 1.87 million.

Nintendo’s same financial report clarified that since launch, Pokemon Pokopia has, in actuality, sold over 4 million units, but a specific number will have to wait until next quarter. This means that Pokopia is likely ahead of Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, but potentially a little behind Donkey Kong Bananza. Still, when you take into account that Donkey Kong Bananza released a little over a month after the Switch 2 launched and Pokopia is only a couple of months old, it’s incredibly impressive. At the rate it’s going, it’s entirely possible Pokopia will eventually catch up to Mario Kart World, or at least get close.

The big thing working against Pokopia sales ever reaching Mario Kart World is the fact that the latter was bundled with millions of Switch 2 launch bundles. There is a new Switch 2 Pokopia bundle on the way, but so far it’s only confirmed for release in Australia and New Zealand. If the bundle becomes more widely available, perhaps it will be the edge that Pokopia needs to potentially catch up to or surpass Mario Kart World one day.

But again, Nintendo raising the price of the Switch 2 means that there will most likely be fewer people buying the new console, and therefore fewer people buying its games. It will definitely be interesting to see how the Switch 2 price increase impacts things moving forward, but the console itself has sold nearly 20 million units at last count, so there is at least already a sizable install base for its games.
