A new behind-the-scenes video has been released for Pokemon Winds and Waves, offering a special look at a recording for a piece of music from the games. Pokemon Winds and Waves represent the 10th generation of the franchise, serving as a direct follow-up to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This will also mark the first pair of mainline games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, so those that have yet to upgrade from the original Switch will have to do so to play either game.
Music has played a pivotal role in the Pokemon franchise from the very beginning, and the developers have enlisted some top-tier talent to bring life to the games over the last three decades. Pokemon‘s ninth generation in particular featured a mix of franchise favorites like Junichi Masuda and Go Ichinose, alongside some surprising additional composers. Ed Sheeran wrote a song for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and Undertale creator Toby Fox was also enlisted.

A New Behind-the-Scenes Video for Pokemon Winds and Waves
Pokemon Winds and Waves aren’t coming out until 2027, but a new behind-the-scenes video has been released by Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. The video specifically shows a recording session for the main theme for the games. The theme is performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra, and the video features a mix of footage from Winds and Waves alongside the performance. All the orchestral footage is new, but the scenes from the games come from the trailer released back in February.

The theme for Pokemon Winds and Waves immediately sounds familiar, but with plenty of new elements that make it feel unique. Main themes for Pokemon games always have musical elements that emphasize the ideas of discovery and journey. Those are heavily present in the new recording, offering a tantalizing hint at what to expect when the games are finally released. It all builds to a satisfying crescendo, and reception to the video on YouTube and social media already seems very positive.
The starters from Pokemon Winds and Waves have been announced, but little else has been shown from the games thus far. Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua both make a brief appearance in the new behind-the-scenes video, and fans should be seeing a lot of the trio over the next few years. No other new Pokemon have been revealed, and Game Freak has yet to reveal how many new ones will be introduced in Winds and Waves. Scarlet and Violet and its DLC brought the total number of Pokemon up to 1,025, and it’s probably safe to assume that number will pass 1,100 next year.

A more specific release window for Pokemon Winds and Waves has not been offered, but new Pokemon generations are typically released in the holiday season. If that ends up being the case for Winds and Waves, fans still have more than a year to wait. That also means new information on the games will probably be slow to be released. In the absence of news, there’s already a lot of speculation about the games. Pokemon Winds and Waves fans have even designed Shiny variants for the starters, which just shows how eager everyone is to learn more about the next generation. This new behind-the-scenes video is the perfect way to keep fans invested, without revealing too much too early. Hopefully there will be a lot more like it in the months ahead.
