Pokemon Winds and Waves Theory Speculates on the Battle Gimmick

Pokemon Winds and Waves Theory Speculates on the Battle Gimmick

A Pokemon fan shares a theory about how Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ battle gimmick could work. While the reveal trailer for Pokemon Winds and Waves was relatively long at over 3 minutes, compared to the very short announcement for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet back in the day, it didn’t really show anything regarding Gen 10’s battle gimmick. All that is currently known about it comes from leaks, and even then, it remains to be seen whether they will prove true.

Pokemon Winds and Waves will launch in late 2027, according to insiders. These sources also all state that there will be no further reveals for Gen 10 games in 2026, essentially hinting at the next trailer on Pokemon Day 2027, exactly one year after the reveal. This is yet to be officially confirmed, but it could make sense if the release window is around October/November 2027. If this is the case, the battle gimmick for Gen 10 may not debut until Summer 2027, February 27 of next year at the earliest.

Rumor: New Pokemon for Pokemon Winds and Waves Leaks Online

A semi-credible source claims to reveal the general design and typing for one critter in the upcoming release of Pokemon Winds and Waves on Switch 2.

Here’s How Pokemon Winds and Waves’ Battle Gimmick Could Work

A Reddit user named avocado-toast420 shared a post speculating about Pokemon Winds and Waves‘ battle gimmick, tying the strange iridescent symbol from the official Japanese Gen 10 logos to myths and culture in Southeast Asia. The theory is that the symbol could be a reference to the scarves and sashes used in Buddhist and Japanese religious art. Divine beings, referred to as tennyo, apsaras, hiten, and bodhisattvas, often wear magical robes, sashes, and scarves, which represent their ascended, celestial status. The same could hold for Pokemon with this gimmick, giving critters some form of cloak, scarf, or sash, much like Terastallization gave each Pokemon a crystal.

These Pokemon, according to avocado-toast420’s theory, could enter a temporary divine-like state. Since in mythology this is often connected to death and rebirth, among other themes, the gimmick could give Pokemon new forms, abilities, or a different type. It wouldn’t be too far off from Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s Mega Evolutions, and it could work similarly to the move introduced in Gen 9 called Revival Blessing, which revives a fainted Pokemon.

Interestingly, this would tie perfectly with the leaked rebirth gimmick in Pokemon Winds and Waves, which would revive a Pokemon and potentially give it a new divine form. These leaks are a bit complex in origin, as the first mention of the battle gimmick for Gen 10 came in the TeraLeak, mentioning the plan was to add weather moves, or something of the sort. After the official Gen 10 trailer, several leak accounts on social media started pointing to the symbol in the Japanese logos as the actual in-game symbol for the battle gimmick.

The battle gimmick for Gen 10 is called “majin,” according to leaks.

Considering the Southeast Asia setting, the leaks about a rebirth mechanic, and the possible inspiration behind the symbol on Japanese logos, it seems very plausible that avocado-toast420’s theory could be correct. Even if it’s not 100% accurate, there does seem to be a well-thought-out logic to it that would also have a good in-universe application for Pokemon battles. With Pokemon Champions‘ Mega Evolutions being just one of the various generational gimmicks, the “majin” could be a great addition to competitive Pokemon by giving players an edge to bring back KOed Pokemon.
